History of Shillong Teer

The betting on archery is not a new idea that bloomed out of the blue recently. This betting has been in existence since the early 20th century. Though this form of betting was banned in the state by their Government until recently in the 1980’s when this betting was reinstated. The state Government of Meghalaya felt that revenue earned from these Teer bettings were substantial and it was also a way of refining the skills of these archers. Thus, Shillong Teer and other Teer bettings were legalised in Meghalaya during the 1980’s. Now these bettings work under the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act 1982.
